Hi. My name's Jeff Shiau and I'm a writer from Ottawa, Canada. I published some stories about being a stay-at-home dad. People liked them and said I should write more.
So I did.
I love being a dad! Every day, I watch in amazement as my children grow and mature right in front of me. As my wife and I teach them, they teach us even more: about life, about ourselves, about being human.
By sharing my stories, I hope parents, especially fathers, reflect on what it means to be involved and emotionally present in the lives of their children. Not all fathers are dads; there's a big difference between the two. You don't need a blood relation to be called "Dad."
While biology makes you are a father, being there for your child makes you a dad.
Raising my kids has deepened my passion for writing, providing a whole new world of creative material. I enjoy all forms of writing but have a particular interest in creative nonfiction, short stories and poetry.
Some of my essays have been published in The Globe and Mail and The Good Men Project.
I think being a dad is a pretty cool thing.
Jeff
